BIOGRAPHY
Petrović Leš, Tihana (born March 27, 1963, Markovac Našički, Našice). Husband Robert Leš, professional photographer. Daughter Marta (2002). Father Imro Petrović, renowned high-school professor in Našice. Mother Mira née Vukelić, graduated agronomy, from the renowned families of traders Kovačević and Japunčić from Lika.
Finished primary and secondary school in Našice. Graduated ethnology and archeology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb in 1987. Received her MA in 1992 and PhD in 1997 at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb.
Works at the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology since 1989 where she teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses. She mentored around fifty undergraduate, MA and PhD students, participated in the design of curricula of undergraduate and postgraduate study of ethnology and cultural anthropology. Since 2008 she is the supervisor of the scientific project Croatian Ethnographic Heritage in the Context of Cultural Politics. She was deputy head OF the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology from 1999 till 2004, and head of department from 2004 till 2007. From 1999 till 2003 she was the secretary of the postgraduate studies program of the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology and head of the program from 2003 till 2007. She was the head of the Chair for National Ethnology at the Department from 2001 and 2004, the position she was reelected to in the academic year of 2007/08. She was the editor of around thirty scientific and professional publications; the reviewer of around twenty books and articles; member of professional promotion committees; the author of several exhibitions; co-writer and associate for eight documentaries produced by the Croatian Television. In 2006 she was appointed as the member of the Ministry of Culture’s intangible heritage committee. She is the associate at the international Lace Festival in Lepoglava and at the project of Lepoglava Eco-museum.
She is the member of the Croatian Ethnological Society (she was the society’s secretary from 1994 till 1997), member of the Department for History of Art, Archaeology, Ethnology and Architecture of the Matrix Croatica. She was the member of the editorial board of the scientific journal Etnološka tribina (from 1990 till 1998). She is currently the member of the editorial board of the scientific journal Studia Ethnologica Croatica (editor of issues 7/8 and 19). In 2008 she was awarded the Croatian Ethnological Society’s Milovan Gavazzi award for scientific and teaching work. In 2010 she founded and organized the work of the mixed choir of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The area of her research and scientific work encompass the history of Croatian ethnology, textile crafts and clothing in Croatia. In her research she extensively consults archives and ethnological cartography. She presented papers at around thirty international and national scientific conferences. She published around fifty scientific and professional papers in national and international publications, and the following books: Lepoglavsko čipkarstvo [The Lace-making of Lepoglava], Zagreb: Srednja Europa, 2008, 181 pages, co-authored by Suzana Leček and Tihana Petrović Leš; Znanost i svjetonazor. Etnologija i prosvjetna politika Banovine Hrvatske 1939. – 1941. [Science and World-view. Ethnology and Educational Policy in Banovina Hrvatska 1939-1941], Zagreb: Srednja Europa and Hrvatski institut za povijest – Podružnica za povijest Slavonije, Srijema i Baranje u Slavonskom Brodu, 2010, 152 pages.
